Clear inputs. Independent rankings.
Cardwell compares a focused catalog against the priorities a user provides. Referral availability is kept outside the ranking calculation.
What the ranking uses
Cardwell starts with the user’s selected path: Cash Back, Travel, 0% APR, or Business. It can then consider spending categories, annual-fee preference, travel frequency, reward style, broad monthly spending range, or financing goal. Only answers relevant to the selected path are used.
Personal and business stay separate
Personal questions are compared only with personal cards. Business questions are compared only with business cards. Cardwell does not mix the two card pools in one recommendation.
How matches are ordered
Cards receive more weight when their features closely match the user’s stated priorities. A card can lose weight when its annual fee, complexity, travel level, or financing limitations conflict with those preferences. The two strongest eligible results become Best Match and Second Choice, with short reasons.
What never changes a ranking
Referral availability, potential compensation, and whether Cardwell has a commercial relationship with an issuer do not enter the recommendation score. A referral-supported alternative may be shown separately only after a user rejects the normal results or asks for another option.
Card facts and sources
Card facts are checked against issuer-owned U.S. product pages. Cardwell reviews annual fees, reward structures, APR summaries, foreign transaction fees, and important restrictions. Offers may change between reviews, so the issuer’s current terms remain the final source.
Important limits
- Cardwell compares a focused set of 16 cards, not every card in the market.
- It does not use a credit report or predict approval.
- It does not ask for an SSN, card number, or bank login.
- It provides educational comparison, not financial, legal, or tax advice.
